The rise of details & dreaming of Missoula

Those of you that have ever visited my office know that when I'm on top of my workload game, my desk will have a few notes of tasks yet unfinished, but will be essentially empty and clear. The above shot taken just minutes ago, portrays a different scene. I find that when I embark upon a project, many other items come to the fore as well. Somehow in the committing to something large, the tiny details show up just as large as the actual work at hand. I become multi-tasker extraordinaire, fixing the camp stove and paying the bills, sharpening pencils and taking in Rory's new jeans waist, sorting for Goodwill and waterproofing the rain jackets. The superhero powers I possess allow me to leave no stone unturned. It's amazing to behold, even for myself. But BOY, what a wake of momentary destruction it leaves (as evidenced by the desk you CAN see and the two others you can't - all covered with items to take care of). This zealous push is, I suppose, part procrastination for the ultimate decision making for what to take in my bags and part wish to leave everything neat and tidy for those that remain. What a disaster combination at the front end of trip, as without fail the first three days in paradise I can barely function. I'm doing my best to not take my usual path, especially with 5,000+ miles yet to drive, but it's harder than ever. The reprise from the chaos rises up on the computer screen, with Glacier National Park's beauty taking center stage to remind me why we're doing this at all and put these earthly details in perspective. Time for a nice cup of tea.

Donations are coming in! Let the snack buying begin.

Hello it's Rory again. We received our first donations, so I bought some snacks today (monday the 23d at 11:30) at our very small grocery store by our house. I choose Oreos, nerds, two bags of chips and popcorn for the snack. Taylor Court Grocery has been in this neighborhood FOREVER. The owners and sellers are Mel and Errol. I go there by myself about once a week it is seven blocks from our house.

But the GREAT news is...we may get our car today!!

Birthday Fun + We have Maps

We're gathering the maps and planning the routes. Anybody advise going to Yellowstone in July? Who has a reserved campsite to share for a night? Maps get me excited about all of the places I'll see. However the realization that every 2" equal an hour of driving will soon set in. The open road is ours. Do you have any driving tips?

And Happy 42nd Birthday to me. I wouldn't change a thing.

Here is our car we got today (june 21st 2014 12:00). It is a 2004 VW Passat Wagon. We bought it in Montavilla (our neighborhood) across from our little coffee shop. First we drove it, then a Mercedes, then a Tracker, then an Audi. I liked this one best. See how happy I am. We're on our way.
