On with the story.
This Saturday, July 26th, we had a free day in Madison. We'd just had a blast at the Vosberg Recreational Center in Cottage Grove, blog entry here and were headed to Madison for our final day there.
Rory was in a mood, but the show must go on.
Driving into Madison from the east you see Ella's Deli and Ice Cream Parlor, complete with full sized Carousel and animated displays. This place is a trip. We didn't stop, as time didn't allow. It is fun though.

East side Madison, Willy Street brings the Crystal Corner Bar, home to fantastic music. Again, wrong time for this kind of thing, but good to see none the less. Ahh, the memories.
Rory and I were here to visit the Willy Street Co-op and stock up on some supplies. The Co-op is undergoing some expansion and the store bathrooms are currently located outside. We loved seeing that they were called Bucky's. In Oregon, we have Honey Bucket. Not as nice as Bucky's. I'm glad they didn't add the word Bucket to Bucky's.
Moving on with supplies in hand, we visited the Disability Pride Event that Todd helped organize at Brittingham Park. Cousin Abby joined us for the music, and booths and fun. Sadly, I left the camera in the car, so you'll have to just imagine the scene. We had a very nice time.
Abby came by bike, and we decided to go visit the UW Terrace. She rode ahead and we managed to rustle up a sandwich and some more supplies for our upcoming trip to Tennessee. Local Italian Deli, Fraboni's fit the bill.
We also found Stappj Bitter, a delicious red Italian bitter soda, always found in tiny bottles.
Here is Rory, hungrily eating our Italian cheese sammy. Yum. We also got cannoli to go. Super yum and what a treat we hadn't expected.
Thank you Fraboni's.
We hustled to the Union to meet Abby, stopping for a quick picture of all of the bikes in the racks. People ride bikes here. All sorts of bikes. All sorts of people.
More of the scene...with the Union entrance at the back.
Luckily Bucky was there too.
The UW Union is very unusual, as it houses a German style beer hall named the Rathskeller. Here, we're getting close...
And now, the reveal. In the winter, or on rainy days, bands will play for free on weekend nights in the arch. It is no less than epic. As I understand it, when I was in school in the 90's at UW, beer sales in the Rath were top for any establishment in the whole state of Wisconsin. Impressive folks.
See the fireplace?! And here in this location, you can whisper towards the wall, and the person on the other side can hear you. This was an important feature of the architecture and function of the Hall. When combined with drinking, many secrets could be revealed to those listening on the other side of the arch. Important for politics.
Weddings on the Terrace. Awwww. UW Grads love Lake Mendota. Alot.
Here's Rory at the Cafeteria which overlooks the Lake.
Abby's here too. She was so good to wait for us.
Eventually we part ways and go for State Street.
Here we find Rory with Ron Dayne, who brought UW's football team to the fore.
And a spotted cow on a roof.
See it now?
We've made it to the UW Bookstore. Bucky is here too.
Lastly, we make it to Madison's Community Pharmacy. This place is nothing short of awesome. They carry everything, plus there's a pharmacist on staff. I love this kind of thing. Rory finds that on this day, he is finally tired. We took a picture of it all here.
What a day.
We high tailed to to Cambridge to meet up with Gram Bon and Grandpa Tom. Tom made ribs and I wasn't refusing. No photos please, we're resting.
